VidoRev Alternatives in 2026: Five Video Themes and Plugins Compared

For years VidoRev has been the go-to theme for a WordPress video sharing site, and ChatGPT still names it first. It has front-end uploads, channels, playlists, imports from six video sites and a 4.75 rating from 174 buyers. So why look elsewhere? When we checked on 1 October 2026, three reasons stood out.

VidoRev's last update was on 1 December 2025, while VidMov, from the same developer, was updated in September 2026. Charging viewers means adding Paid Memberships Pro or WooCommerce. And most buyers miss the licence. Envato's licence FAQ says a site where users pay to see it needs an Extended Licence, and VidoRev's costs $2,950, not $59.

Here are five alternatives. Each one beats VidoRev at one particular thing. One of them is our own Video Theme.

VidMov

If you like VidoRev but want something more recently updated, VidMov is the closest swap. It's made by the same developer, beeteam368, so the admin and features will feel familiar. Members can submit videos, build channels, playlists and series, and fetch videos from YouTube, Vimeo and Dailymotion. Version 2.4.0 came out on 2 September 2026.

It handles files better. Uploads are sent in chunks, so long videos don't hit your host's upload limit. It also plays HLS streams and connects to Bunny Stream, which can deliver videos in several quality levels instead of your server doing it.

VidMov costs $59, or $3,333 for the Extended Licence. It has 1,450 sales and a 4.66 rating from 67 reviews. The product page lists paid viewing next to ArMember, Paid Memberships Pro and myCred, so expect to need a plugin for that too.

Pros

  • Same developer and approach as VidoRev, more recently updated
  • Chunked uploads for big member files
  • Bunny Stream and HLS playback

Cons

  • The most expensive Extended Licence here
  • Paid viewing appears to depend on third-party plugins
  • Fewer sales and reviews than VidoRev

BeTube

BeTube dark YouTube clone layout

BeTube is the cheaper option, and it looks the most like YouTube. JoinWebs has sold it for ten years and still adds to it. The September release brought a gaming layout and reaction buttons, and fixed duplicate posts from its YouTube importer. Members submit videos from the front end and can sign in with Facebook, Twitter or Google.

For a site paid for by ads, BeTube does more than VidoRev without extra setup. Its pre-roll slot takes video ads, image ads and Google AdSense. Viewers get less, though. There's a watch-later list but no playlists. BeTube costs $39 for a free-to-watch site or $2,450 for the Extended Licence. It has 2,090 sales and a 4.32 rating from 78 reviews. Paid memberships go through Paid Memberships Pro.

Pros

  • $20 cheaper than VidoRev for an ad-funded site
  • AdSense and image ads in the pre-roll slot
  • Social login for faster sign-ups

Cons

  • No user playlists
  • Lower rating than VidoRev
  • Paid tiers still need Paid Memberships Pro

PremiumPress (ours)

PremiumPress Video Theme homepage design

This one is ours. It suits you if payments are your reason for leaving VidoRev. Membership plans with recurring billing, members-only videos and pay-per-view with a free preview are all built into the theme. Paid files are moved to a private folder and played through links that expire after six hours. One $99 licence covers every site you own, including sites where viewers pay.

It imports from fewer places than VidoRev. Members can add YouTube and Vimeo links, but there's no fetching from Twitch, Dailymotion or Google Drive, and no way to import a whole channel. Uploads aren't transcoded and are capped at 128 MB by default. Subscribers aren't told about new videos, and creators aren't paid out. On the other hand, it has Shorts, paid promotion slots and optional live streaming through your own Cloudflare Stream account, which VidoRev doesn't.

Pros

  • Memberships and pay-per-view built in
  • One licence for every site you own, paid or free
  • Private storage for paid videos

Cons

  • Fewer import sources than VidoRev
  • No transcoding, 128 MB default upload cap
  • No creator payouts or subscriber notifications

Video Share VOD

Video Share VOD plugin demo site

You may not want to change your theme at all. Video Share VOD from VideoWhisper is a free plugin on WordPress.org. It adds a video section to the site you already have, with front-end uploads, imports, playlists, VAST ads, access by user role, and pay-per-view or membership options. It's also the only option on this page that converts uploads to MP4 and HLS and makes thumbnails on the server.

That conversion needs FFmpeg installed on your server. The plugin says snapshots, previews and conversions don't work without it, which rules out most shared hosting.

Its reviews are poor. It's rated 2.3 out of 5 from 12 ratings, and eight of those are one star. One reviewer in 2025 said they gave up after a year and built their own app instead. It has 50 active installs and was updated on 9 September 2026.

Pros

  • Free, and keeps your current theme
  • Server-side conversion to MP4 and HLS
  • Ads and paid access in the plugin

Cons

  • Needs FFmpeg on the server
  • Poor ratings and a very small user base
  • The demo looks dated next to the themes

Hello WpStream

Hello WpStream live streaming theme demo

VidoRev can show a YouTube live stream, but it can't run one itself. If live video is the main point of your site, look at Hello WpStream. It's a free theme built around the WpStream plugin. Users you choose can broadcast from the front end, and each broadcast is recorded and becomes an on-demand video. Its demos include a church, an esports site and a live shopping channel.

It works quite differently from VidoRev. Members can't upload normal videos and don't get channels. After the free trial, all streaming runs on WpStream's paid service, starting at $24 a month or $36 one-time for the Lite plan. Pay-per-view uses WooCommerce, and recurring subscriptions need WooCommerce Subscriptions at $279 a year. The theme has 100 active installs.

Pros

  • Real live streaming, with automatic replays
  • Free theme, no ThemeForest licence question
  • Streaming load stays off your server

Cons

  • No member uploads or channels
  • Ongoing WpStream plan after the trial
  • Subscriptions need a paid WooCommerce extension

Stick with VidoRev?

VidoRev is still a good buy for some sites. If your site is free to watch and paid for by ads, the $59 Regular Licence is all you need. No alternative here imports from as many places. It pulls videos from YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Twitch, Facebook and Google Drive and fills in thumbnails, lengths and view counts for you. That's very useful if your site is built mostly from existing videos.

Before you buy, ask the developer about the ten months without an update. Video themes rely on YouTube, Vimeo and WordPress, and all three keep changing. Two themes people used to choose instead, VideoPro and goWatch, now show "410 Gone" on ThemeForest.

Final thoughts

For the same kind of site on newer code, choose VidMov. Its chunked uploads and Bunny Stream support help on any site where members upload long videos. For an ad-funded site on a small budget, BeTube does the job for $39 with AdSense in the pre-roll slot.

If you plan to charge viewers, count the licence before you compare features. The ThemeForest themes need an Extended Licence costing $2,450 to $3,333, plus a membership plugin. In that case our PremiumPress Video Theme, at $99 for every site you own, is cheaper and simpler, as long as you don't need transcoding or creator payouts.

Video Share VOD suits a technical owner who has FFmpeg and wants to keep their current theme. Hello WpStream is the one for live events. Our video theme vs plugin comparison adds up the first-year costs of each route.

FAQ

What is the best alternative to VidoRev?
VidMov, from the same developer, is the closest and was updated in September 2026. BeTube is cheaper for ad-funded sites. For sites that charge viewers, the PremiumPress Video Theme has memberships and pay-per-view built in.
Is VidoRev still updated?
Its last ThemeForest update was on 1 December 2025, ten months before we checked on 1 October 2026. It's still on sale and highly rated.
Do I need an Extended Licence for a paid video site?
On ThemeForest, usually yes. Envato's licence FAQ says that if users need to pay to see the site, you need an Extended Licence. Blogging themes are an exception. VidoRev's Extended Licence is $2,950.
What is the difference between VidoRev and VidMov?
Both come from beeteam368 and work in a similar way. VidMov is newer and adds chunked uploads, HLS playback, Bunny Stream and audio. VidoRev imports from more sites and has more sales and reviews.
Does VidoRev have pay-per-view?
It sells videos through WooCommerce and runs memberships through Paid Memberships Pro or WooCommerce Memberships. Paid access depends on those plugins, not the theme alone.
Is there a free alternative to VidoRev?
Video Share VOD is a free plugin that adds a video section to your current theme, but it needs FFmpeg and has poor reviews. Hello WpStream is a free theme for live streaming, but it needs a paid streaming plan.
Can I import my YouTube channel into an alternative theme?
VidMov and BeTube fetch details from YouTube links, and the free Auto YouTube Importer plugin can import a whole channel as posts. Don't use WordPress Video Robot, which has a serious security flaw with no fix.
Which alternative handles large video uploads best?
VidMov, because it uploads in chunks and can hand delivery to Bunny Stream. Video Share VOD converts files on the server but needs FFmpeg. The PremiumPress Video Theme limits uploads to 128 MB by default.
Are VideoPro and goWatch still options?
No. Both ThemeForest pages showed "410 Gone" when we checked on 1 October 2026, so neither can be bought there.
Can I switch from VidoRev without losing my videos?
Your videos are WordPress posts and media files, so they stay in the database. But each theme stores video links, channels and playlists in its own way. Expect to re-link or re-import them, and test on a copy of your site first.
