WordPress Real Estate Themes in 2026: Houzez, WP Residence, RealHomes, Estatik and IDX Compared

WordPress Real Estate Themes in 2026: Houzez, WP Residence, RealHomes, Estatik and IDX Compared

Most real estate sites on WordPress fall into one of two jobs. An agent or a single agency wants a site that shows their own stock and pulls in enquiries. A portal owner wants many agents and landlords to sign up, pay to list, and compete for the same buyers, the way Rightmove or Zillow works. The themes below can do both on paper, but each leans one way.

The other question is IDX. In the US and Canada, agents usually want MLS listings on their site, and no theme can supply that data alone. You pay a feed provider every month. We cover that below too.

We checked four themes, one plugin and one IDX service on 1 October 2026, using their own pages, live demos and the WordPress.org directory. One of the themes is ours.

Houzez

Houzez real estate theme demo homepage with status tabs and property search

Houzez is the best seller in this category by a long way. It has 57,270 sales on ThemeForest and a 4.84 rating from about 2,700 reviews, and Favethemes released an update on 23 September 2026. The regular licence is $89.

The demo opens on a search bar with All Status, For Rent and For Sale tabs, then property type, city, bedrooms and budget. Behind it sits a front-end dashboard where agents add listings, and a CRM that tracks leads, enquiries and deals. You can charge agents through free or paid membership packages, using PayPal, Stripe, bank transfer or WooCommerce. Saved searches, email alerts and a compare tool are all on the feature list.

For MLS data, the item page says Houzez works with third-party IDX plugins. If you want listings to appear in the Houzez search and cards, it points you to Organic IDX Sync, which covers the US and Canada and is a separate subscription.

A portal where agents pay you is a site where end users are charged. Envato's licence FAQ says that needs an Extended Licence, which costs $2,399 for Houzez.

Pros

  • Huge user base, so most questions already have an answer somewhere
  • Built-in CRM for leads and deals
  • Paid agent packages with several gateways
  • Saved searches with email alerts

Cons

  • A paid portal needs the $2,399 Extended Licence
  • Native MLS listings depend on a paid sync service
  • One site per licence

WP Residence

WP Residence real estate theme demo with address search and category filters

WP Residence is the oldest theme here. WpEstate has sold it for twelve years and it still gets regular releases, the latest on 21 September 2026. It costs $79 and has 32,684 sales with a 4.84 rating from around 1,600 reviews.

The item page counts more than 450 theme options and 50 ready-made demos, and it works with Elementor and WPBakery. Users register and submit properties from a white-label dashboard. Membership packages can be set per user type, and payments run through Stripe, PayPal, wire transfer or WooCommerce. Visitors can compare properties side by side and save searches, with alert emails sent daily or weekly.

WpEstate is clear about MLS. If you want MLS properties to behave like your own listings, you need its MLS Import plugin.

We couldn't read an Extended Licence price on the item page, so ask the author before you build a paid portal on it.

Pros

  • 50 demos to start from
  • Compare tool and saved-search alerts
  • Membership packages per user type
  • Long, steady update record

Cons

  • 450 options is a lot to learn
  • MLS needs a separate plugin
  • Extended Licence price not shown when we checked

RealHomes

RealHomes Ultra demo with keyword search over a living room photo

InspiryThemes now lists RealHomes as "RH - Real Estate WordPress Theme". It has three design variations, Ultra, Classic and Modern. We used Ultra for the screenshot. It costs $79, has 34,036 sales and a 4.75 rating from about 1,700 reviews, and was last updated on 24 August 2026.

The part that sets it apart is the vacation rental system, with availability calendars and booking management. If you sell homes and also run holiday lets, that saves you a second plugin. It also has a location search up to four levels deep, OpenStreetMap or Google Maps, a compare feature, favourites, saved searches with email alerts, front-end submission paid through PayPal or Stripe, and a CRM for leads and deals.

The item page didn't mention MLS or IDX when we read it. The Extended Licence is $2,499.

Pros

  • Holiday lets and sales in one theme
  • Choice of OpenStreetMap or Google Maps
  • Saved searches with email alerts
  • Three distinct design styles

Cons

  • No MLS route named on the item page
  • $2,499 Extended Licence for a paid portal
  • Oldest update date of the three ThemeForest themes

PremiumPress (ours)

PremiumPress Real Estate Theme Highrise design for city apartment rentals

This is the one we make. Our Real Estate Theme is built around the portal model. At sign-up a member picks "Buying or renting", "Selling or letting" or "I am an agent", and each gets a different member area. A tenant doesn't get handed a "create listing" button. Agents get a public agency page under /agencies/ with their logo, area and every property they list.

The listing fields come from UK portals more than US ones. Status covers For Sale, For Rent, Under Offer, Sold, Let Agreed and New Listing. There is a tenure field with Freehold, Leasehold, Share of Freehold and others, a build stage field for off-plan and new builds, and letting terms such as Bills Included that only appear on rentals. Seekers can save a search, send an enquiry and, where the owner has switched viewings on, request a viewing slot. Owners see a graph of views for each listing. Maps use OpenStreetMap with no API key, and you can switch to Google.

You can charge for listings with paid plans and membership plans. There are 30 homepage designs across ten niches, from student lettings and holiday lets to land, commercial and foreclosures. The Highrise design above is from the apartment rentals set.

It has real gaps. There's no IDX or MLS feed of any kind, so it suits portals where people add their own listings. Saved searches don't send email alerts yet. There's no compare table, no mortgage calculator and no CRM. Card payments need a gateway plugin such as Stripe, which isn't in the theme download.

It costs $99 once and covers every site you own. Updates are included for six months, then $49 per six months if you want them, and there's a 14-day refund.

Pros

  • Separate member areas for seekers, owners and agents
  • Agency pages built in
  • Tenure, build stage and letting terms as real filters
  • Unlimited sites, and no Extended Licence for a paid portal

Cons

  • No MLS or IDX support
  • No saved-search emails, compare tool or CRM
  • Much smaller user base than Houzez

Estatik

Estatik real estate plugin demo with address search and filters

If you already like your theme, Estatik adds listings to it as a plugin. The free version has over 10,000 active installs on WordPress.org and a 4.6 rating from 187 reviews. Version 4.3.6 came out on 22 September 2026.

Free Estatik gives you a fields builder, AJAX map search, saved searches, wishlists and front-end listing management. Agents and agencies, paid subscription plans through PayPal, a compare feature and saved-search notifications are in PRO, which costs $89. MLS import through RETS and the RESO Web API is listed as a Premium feature. We couldn't find a Premium price on Estatik's version page.

The demo menu shows map view, grid layout, agencies and agents. It's a sensible route for a single agent's site built with Elementor.

Pros

  • Works with the theme you already have
  • Generous free version
  • MLS import available in a higher tier

Cons

  • Agents, paid plans and alerts need PRO
  • PayPal is the only gateway named for PRO payments
  • Premium pricing wasn't published where we looked

Showcase IDX

Showcase IDX homepage for its WordPress MLS search plugin

Showcase IDX is a hosted MLS search that plugs into WordPress. It isn't a theme. You run it on top of whichever theme you choose, and the listing data comes from the MLS you belong to.

Plans start at $94.95 a month for Essentials with two user seats, or $124.95 for Premium with five. Paying yearly saves two months. Some MLSs charge their own pass-through fee, which the company puts at $0 to $33 a month. There's a 10-day free trial with no setup fee. The WordPress.org plugin has over 2,000 active installs, a 3.8 rating from 35 reviews, and was updated on 21 September 2026.

The plugin page says listings are rendered on the server, so search engines see them as part of your site. Lead capture asks visitors to register to get alerts on new listings.

There are other routes. Optima Express has over 10,000 installs and IMPress for IDX Broker over 7,000, both on WordPress.org. Each needs a paid account with its provider.

Pros

  • Real MLS data with map search
  • Lead capture and listing alerts
  • Works with any theme in this list

Cons

  • At least $849.50 a year, plus any MLS fee
  • Only useful if you belong to an MLS it covers
  • Rated 3.8 on WordPress.org, below Estatik

Final thoughts

For a US agent or brokerage, start with the MLS question. You'll pay for an IDX service whatever theme you pick, so choose the feed first. Then pick a theme that works with it. Houzez with Organic IDX Sync or WP Residence with MLS Import keeps everything in one search. A hosted IDX search running on top of any theme is the simpler setup.

For a single agency that wants to manage leads, Houzez has the most complete CRM and the biggest community. WP Residence is close behind and has more starter demos. If you also run holiday lets, RealHomes covers both.

If you just want listings on the theme you already use, try free Estatik first and only buy PRO when you need agent accounts.

For a portal where landlords and agents pay to list, the licence matters more than people expect. On ThemeForest that is an Extended Licence, $2,399 for Houzez and $2,499 for RealHomes. Our theme has paid plans, agency pages and separate member areas for $99, and it has no MLS feed, so it fits UK-style lettings and sales portals better than US agent sites.

FAQ

What is the best WordPress theme for a real estate agent?
Houzez is the most popular, with over 57,000 sales and a CRM for leads. WP Residence and RealHomes are close alternatives. If you need MLS listings, check which IDX service works with the theme before you buy.
Which real estate themes support IDX?
Houzez points to Organic IDX Sync and WP Residence to its MLS Import plugin. Most themes also work with embedded IDX plugins, such as the hosted search covered above, Optima Express or IMPress for IDX Broker. Our Real Estate Theme has no IDX support.
How much does IDX cost on WordPress?
The hosted IDX search we looked at starts at $94.95 a month, and some MLSs add up to $33 a month. Other providers have their own plans. Budget for it as a monthly running cost, not a one-off.
Can I build a site like Rightmove or Zillow with WordPress?
You can build the same model, with agents and landlords who sign up, pay to list and receive enquiries. The national data and traffic are a different matter. Start with one city or one niche, such as student lets.
Do I need an Extended Licence for a real estate portal?
If you buy from ThemeForest and charge agents or users on the site, Envato's licence FAQ says yes. That is $2,399 for Houzez and $2,499 for RealHomes. The PremiumPress licence has no separate tier for paid sites.
Is a plugin better than a real estate theme?
A plugin like Estatik lets you keep your design and switch themes later. A theme gives you templates, dashboards and payment flows that already match. For a portal, a theme is usually less work.
Which theme handles rentals and holiday lets?
RealHomes has availability calendars and bookings for holiday rentals. Our theme has rental statuses, letting terms and a holiday lets design set, with viewing requests rather than nightly bookings.
Can visitors save searches and get email alerts?
Houzez, WP Residence and RealHomes all send alerts on saved searches. Estatik does it in PRO. Our theme saves searches but doesn't email alerts yet.
Do these themes need Elementor?
Houzez, RealHomes and WP Residence are built to work with Elementor, and WP Residence also supports WPBakery. Estatik's demo uses Elementor's Hello theme. Our theme uses its own design blocks.
How often are these themes updated?
Houzez and WP Residence both had releases in September 2026, and RealHomes in August 2026. Both WordPress.org plugins we covered were updated in September 2026.
