About Openpay

Openpay is a Mexican payment gateway offering cards, cash and instalment payments for local merchants.

What Openpay supports

SPEI bank transfer and cash (store) payments for Mexico (MXN), powered by Openpay (BBVA).

  • Payment methods: Cards, cash (stores), bank transfers, instalments
  • Where it works: Mexico, Colombia and Peru
  • Billing: one-off payments
  • Price: free for every PremiumPress member

Setting up Openpay in PremiumPress

Activate the free plugin, then open your theme’s payment settings and add your Openpay credentials:

  • Merchant ID — Openpay Dashboard → your Merchant ID.
  • Private key — Openpay Dashboard → API Keys → Private key. Used for server-side Basic auth.
  • Public key — Public key — needed only for the client-side Openpay.js card widget (see notes).
  • Payment method — The offline charge type. The buyer gets a CLABE/reference (SPEI) or a barcode (store) to pay.

SPEI and cash charges work end to end (confirmed by the charge.succeeded webhook). Card payments are not yet wired: Openpay requires client-side Openpay.js tokenisation plus a device session id — see the TODO in the plugin. The plugin requires PremiumPress 12.

Openpay plugin FAQ

What do I need to set up Openpay in WordPress?

You'll need a Openpay account and its Merchant ID, Private key, Public key and Payment method, which you enter in your PremiumPress theme's payment settings. The plugin itself is free for members.

Does Openpay support recurring subscriptions?

Openpay handles one-off payments in PremiumPress. If you need recurring billing, choose a gateway shown under the Subscriptions filter on the plugins page.

How does the Openpay checkout work?

One-time payments for Mexico via SPEI bank transfer and cash (store) charges, with API verification and a webhook. Card payments require Openpay.js tokenisation (see the TODO in the code). No SDK — direct REST via wp_remote_request.
