Spanning across page

I noticed that my slider shortcode that I have doesn’t allow me to span across the whole page because my theme doesn’t allow the container to go across the page within the body.

Is there a way to allow for my slider to go the full 100% length like in some of the newer responsive themes? It would allow me to have a very nice slider across the whole page with more button functionality than the built in ones.

If so, what would the CSS rules be with my shortcode of my slider?

Secondly, Will the search me home page object be allowed in other themes? I LIke the simplicity of it but wish it would allow advanced search with a drop down to save space and allow me to do full spanned video on my home pages and keep the style of my other theme on my other pages.
