About Updating The theme | Tutorials & Documentation
any theme however in this instance I’m specifically talking about the New Micro-jobs theme.
I’ve watched this video tutorial, and I’m still left wondering, about the Create Child themes Video’s and Create a Child theme using the Create child theme button in admin.
As the file system is now different and media is store within WordPress files as suggested in the video, and not in the Theme files as it used to be, does this mean we still need to create a child theme?
I am left confused also because from the video tutorials, it appears to me personally, others may understand it differently, that we need to create a child theme so we don’t lose styling or settings when we update a theme. this is normal practice for any Word Press theme.
However as it is suggested and shown in this video tutorial about updating The Theme
Here is the link to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uut0ghRAaTY&list=PLdw6zRMnztUhljF4m9vD6nEbQ_jR6jNXy&feature=player_embedded
The instruction for updating is to deactivate the original theme, (meaning child them) I assume?
Delete it completely ( I am assuming you mean by FTP ) Delete the theme folder (directory called Theme name or Child theme)?
Upload the new version of the Theme and activate it.
Then I assume all your data will still be there showing in the new updated version of the freshly activated theme? as suggested in the Video as I understand it.
What about having to create a child theme again? and what about all or any custom styling that’s possibly just been deleted in the child theme directory if following the instruction in the Update theme video tutorial ?
I’m a bit confused by this video, can anybody clarify?
If My site is backed up first, Obviously I’d do this, However in the event I needed to restore it, Id have to recreate the old theme and make a child theme then restore the back up? am I correct?
Documentation
Please can somebody give me the link for the Micro-jobs Theme? cant find it anywhere,
How to set up Listing package Docs? I find the videos fabulous in general, but its all about the Directory, and does not match settings in admin!
I’m very confused and muddled about Listing packages now?
Where are the actual theme documentations, for each theme hidden? I’ve searched everywhere and can’t find them, It might be easier for me to figure out from the docs! doesn’t matter if they are a bit outdated, It still may be easier to follow printed out and I go through it step by step. As mentioned the videos are excellent, but for me, It’s easier with the normal docs.
