Is it normal for images to be recreated in thumbnail and medium size

    Responsive Theme – Real Estate 5.4

    I’ve just been looking in my ‘home/public_html/wp-content/uploads’ directory and noticed that every image uploaded to my site is in triplicate. There is the original image and then a thumbnail and medium sized one as per the dimensions set under WP Admin > Settings > Media.

    Does anyone know if it’s necessary for the theme to create these for use in listing results/ other pages or is this a standard WP feature which can be switched off and save space?
