Hide out of stock items from gallery, recommendations and other widgets

Hi there (happy new year 🙂 )

during Christmas season I had a lot of Christmas related products listed in my affiliate shop.

Since most of them are now no longer available from the partners, I set them all to qty=0 to remove the buy-button from the listing pages. The problem I have now is that they still appear in product galleries, recommendations and other products widgets throughout the site.

How can I filter all affiliate products with qty=0 from appearing on the page. I do not want to move them nor delete them for SEO reasons.

A possible solution for me would be to filter qty=0 in the default query of the site, but I have no idea where to modify the respective code.

Has anybody done this already or knows where the code needs to be edited?

I’m on WP 4.1 and ShopTheme 8
