Directory Theme – How to Add Categories to the home page?

Hi, i’m using version 8.8 of Directory theme.

Very basic question.

How do i add Category choices to the home page?
Either as a list of them, or a pull down menu.

There are no category choices with the default install.

I saw mention of a category widget, but can’t figure out where to find that or how to use it. I’m new to this theme, and not super experienced with word press.

i looked at this video:

but can’t find the admin menu items mentioned it in. I’m guessing the video is out of date.

Is there a page or video somewhere that explains this?
