Design changes in versions help please

I built a site on 8.2 version that I love and have been afraid to update to newer versions for the usual reasons. I am building a new site on the 8.9.6 version and the homepage editor that is standard is a bit of a challenge. When I tried the option to revert to the old editor, the changes I did with it did nothing. It is also talking about downloading another “Page Builder” with a red bar at the top of the page. Do I need that or what do I need to do? I want to replicate the look of the older version but on the new website as easily as possible. How? Extremely confused and thank you.
