Nav bar missing in responsive theme

I have installed the responsive theme and there is a nav bar missing.

When buying it the demo and images of the child themes show a nav bar with category icons on “Home” “accessories” “Handbags” etc…
The sample data is pre-loaded into my installation and I can see the categories in the “product manager” > “categories”

There is no way to select to use this as the nav bar as sold / described in the responsive theme webpages.

Ive asked several times and tried the live support since I purchased it approx 3 weeks ago and had no proper help or support.
I do feel completely disappointed and I am now 2 themes in and both DONT WORK!
