Is the word “recurring” common?

I often see the expression “recurring” in premiumpress, why not “subscription” here?

For example, is the Netflix form of payment “subscription”?
Or is it “recurring”?

Maybe because I am Japanese, I feel uncomfortable with the word “recurring”. I am not familiar with the word “recurring” in Japan.

I think it would be better to use “subscription,” but doesn’t it seem unnatural to English speakers countries?
