    Hello,

I need to create my own child theme from scratch. To do so, I downloaded the “basic” files from the wp-admin area and end up with several php files and a style.css file.

I just purchased the theme/framework so I’m not familiar with the old way of working. My child theme is sitting next to the DT theme in wp-content/themes.

    I have a few questions/problems

    1) As far as I know, the general idea behind a WP child theme is to replicate the behavior of the parent theme while overriding some part of it. Therefore, if I were to create a child theme with a single style.css file only containing the import.url() function, everything would be similar to the parent theme.

I tried this with DirectoryPress Responsive and it does not work. Not working means :
    – the style.css is not applied
    – parts of the website are not displayed

Is it due to the fact that the style.css of the parent theme is empty?

    2) Could someone clarify the use of the underscore in the naming of the php files present in the child themes? Once again, I read through the forum and was confused. Some say that you need to remove the underscore, some say that you don’t. I also compared my setup with the child themes available on premiumpress but no luck.

    3) In order to have something visually correct, I copied the content of DT/templates/style.css into my child theme’s style.css file.

However, the top search is still missing from the page.

Could someone assist me with these issues? In attachment, the current setup of my child theme. I removed the underscores in the name of the php files. I also removed homepage.php.

    Thanks 🙂
