URL Structure Issue

Love the new theme :-) Just a issue that really gets me.... /listing-category/ /listing/ as we all know having a page below reduces the QS - there is really no reason to have /listing-category/ /listing/ It would be better for seo to have Mark I know your swamped with bugs and stuff --- just point me in the direction so I can try and get rid of this extraneous /listing/ stuff Im thinking its class_white_lable_themes.php

    Hi Gerry

listing is the taxonomy name (default name) its used by WordPress since all listings are using the ‘listing’ post taxonomy.

Not sure you can just removed it, there are plugins that will hide it though by rewritting your htaccess file.

thats one for the old style /category/ you may need to search for one that removed post_type base links.

    Hey Mark,

I use the no tags, no sub cat and category base plugins already and they work fine, I was kind of hoping the no category would have removed the ‘listings’. 🙁

I have searching several hours looking for plugins and code hacks to remove the custom post type but to no avail.

There has to be something out there…. as I hope Im not the only person that would like to see the ‘listings’ custom post type removed from the urls.

Hey guys I did play with the code on but maybe … ok not maybe I am for sure doing something wrong. What pages would this hack be added to?

Also a bit of a concern with all the great dev going on here that any changes made in the core will be outdated in 24 hours.

Mark any chance of adding this code to your core functions? Please, please, please.

you’ll need to look for a WP plugin that remove the post_type base from the permalink, iv not found one myself.

Remove slug from custom post type

Works though you “NEED” to make sure you do not have any conflicting permalinks – same goes for any other category, tag, custom taxonomy.

After some testing with the plugin Aaron suggested I did notice some issues:

the .htaccess file had been changed:

    RewriteRule ^listing_type/(.+)/$ /$1\.html [R=301,l]
    RewriteRule ^wlt_message/(.+)/$ /$1\.html [R=301,l]

As a 301 redirect this is not cool.

So i think need to address

any help on this mod and how to do it will be appreciated.
