Truncate Listing title in search results pages

I’m sure it’s possible to make the title of the listings on search results show only up to “x” amount of characters, but I can’t figure it out. So far I tried…

– Changing the [TITLE] shortcode in the custom code box under search pages to [TITLE size=40] but that didn’t work.

– Changing line 32 in content-listing-comparison.php file from
<h3>[TITLE]</h3> to <h3>[TITLE size=40]</h3>.

No luck.

Anyone know how to do this?

To be clear, I do not want to limit the amount of characters of a listing’s title when adding a listing, just the amount of characters that show of the title on the front end on search results pages. See pic if clarification need.
