Storing photos & Media files on remote server?

I have a large database and am in the process of moving my site to a VPS web server. But disk space on VPS is very expensive. Premium Press used to have a field where we could store photos and other media files in a different location.

    Is that still possible?

I’d like to keep my wordpress, mysql, and PPress files on the VPS but store the media/photo files on an unlimited shared server.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Just use any plugin which has a CDN (Content Delivery network) facility built in – for example, W3 Total Cache:

You can then host your files using say Amazon S3 (as I do) or one of these other CDNs:

    EdgeCast / MediaTemple ProCDN
    Amazon Cloudfront
    Rackspace Cloud Files
    Limelight Networks

Costs vary a little, but all of them are surprisingly cheap (Amazon S3 only costs me a few bucks a month)

    C 🙂

If you use Akamai, Amozon Cloudfront etc. they will additionally replicate your data between all datacenters in the world. If you have international visitors, this would speed up your site for non-local visitors.

There are also some AWS plugins for wordpress if you consider using S3, but as Clive suggested, Caching Plugins will also do the work.

    Thanks for the advice.

How would I use W3 to store media files in directory theme, for instance?
