It seems that the search bar in the header <div id=”main-searchbox”> can’t be customized to show different search fields. This seems like a critical feature but I can hide the search bar using css.
I need a search bar. I’ve tried placing a style 1, style 2, and style 3 search box on the page. Both style 1 and 2 are problematic because they are a collapsible accordion-style box that needs to be “opened” to show the search fields. Since you only have seconds (if that long) for a visitor to interact before they give up on your site, I don’t want them looking around for a way to open the search functionality. I want it open all the time. The vertical arrangement of search fields also take up unnecessary space (thus the accordion).
The style 3 search box looks promising since it has a horizontal layout and is always visible…but it seems to have it’s own search fields that can’t be changed.
I even tried adding the [ADVANCEDSEARCH] shortcode in a text box but it creates the same accordion style vertical search form.
I’m hoping that there are attributes that (1) It’s possible to change the search fields in the <div id=”main-searchbox”> (BEST), that the style 3 search box can have it’s search fields changed (Better), or that there are attributes that can be added to [ADVANCEDSEARCH] to change it’s formatting (I Can Live With It).
Does anybody know if these solutions exist or of another that I missed?
Thanks.
