More flexible map/location options?

Hello,

It seems that in 6.3, the ‘Location’ entry is an all-in-one input, providing data for the country/state/city search lookups, identifying the marker for listings use the ‘Map’ feature, and for showing markers on the top search results map.

Our problem is, while we have some listings that are location specific (for which map display is great) – there are many others that are only state specific – or even just country specific, with no actual location. Because of this, our only option in 6.3 is to turn off *everything* relating to maps – including the ‘Location’ entry – because it was forcibly asking for and applying a detailed location for everyone (so for example if someone enters just USA in the Location field, the system places them in an arbitrary location i.e. Independence Kansas – and then on the search results map, they show up there – and Independence is added to the search lookups, etc.)…

So before we get into it, I am wondering if anyone who has tried the 6.4 beta can tell me if it provides any changes to this behavior that could help in our situation? For example, allowing some listings to be mapped, but others not?
