Media File Location Question

    So, I am just now noticing (new website) that my customer uploaded photos for listings are placed in the same location as my website banners, logos etc. Is this normal and can this be changed so that the main location is not cluttered with tens of thousands of photos!??

    Also, when a customer deletes a listing or it is no longer posted, do the images get deleted from the media file location?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated
