Language File in Child Theme

Has anyone been able to get a custom language file to work in a directorypress child theme?

I have uploaded a _language.php folder to both the child theme folder and a new framework folder i created under the child theme folder but neither of these worked.

All the documentation seems to indicate that this should have worked but I’ve had no success yet.
