How to implement the use of MEMBERSHIP shortcode?

HI,
WP 3.9.1 & DT 6.6.1

We read this documentation:

This shortcode is used to restrict content based on the currently logged in users membership level.
[MEMBERSHIP show=””]

Example would be: [MEMBERSHIP show=1,2,3] content here [/MEMBERSHIP]

Can someone provide a few different scenarios on HOW to use and WHERE exactly we should insert the MEMBERSHIP shortcode? In what parts of the theme can we insert the shorcode apart from pages/posts?

Just not clear about how to use it. We tried to insert it in Page Setup>Content Pages>Listing Page Layout with no luck.
