How to Customize Home page background colour

I installed the August Directory 2016 child theme. I want to change the background colour of the home page. The default is a pale yellow/beige. I can’t find any option in the customization menu, so I think I have to go to the editor and change the style sheet? I know a little about CSS and I can change the colour code once I know which one it is, but I don’t know which is the one I need to change.

Also I would like to remove or change the icons just above the example listings, the ones beside each of the three clickable options to become a member, create your own listings, etc. I see where to change the text for these options, but don’t see how to remove the icons so again I think I need to do this in the style sheet?
