How do you add select option for custom field >> select fields

Hi,

I am looking for a way to add — select — to a custom field >> select field without this value to be an actual value, because it cant be a value as it will give a problem when the field is required.

When a field is required you want a user to make a choice. When — select — would be the default value then on save the system will procede saving as it thinks that there is a valid value for that field…

so i want only to display — select — nothing else.. When people don’t make a choice for that field they will get notified to provide the required field!!!
