Fairly new to WP and very new to Elementor. I understand from watching the Elementor page building tutorial that the Home page I created in Elementor will be linked somehow to the WP Home page. Or vice versa. I don’t really understand that, but as long as it works that’s fine.
For a while my nav bar was showing two home pages but I seem to have it sorted now so that I only have one home page link and the home page is displaying as I want it to look. I did delete one of the versions of the Home page that I had been working on in order to get rid of the second Home page link on my nav bar, and just want to make I did the right thing.
1 ~ When I go to Pages to edit a page, I see my home page listed as:
Page – Homepage — Front Page, Elementor
If I click on Edit with Elementor I see the Home page displayed but I’m not able to select any of the components to edit them. I assume this is because this page is calling the actual Home page from somewhere else…the one showing under Templates > Saved Templates? Is that correct? (just trying to understand what’s going on behind the scenes). The shortcode for the Home page is [premiumpress_elementor_template id=”197″].
2 ~ I can edit my Home page by going to Templates and then selecting the Home page and clicking edit with Elementor. Is this the correct process to make changes to my Home page?
3 ~ When I want to edit a different page, let’s say the Contact or About page, I go to Pages, select the page and click on Edit with Elementor. I am able to add widgets and content to this page, but the header section is not editable. It is showing with a white background on any page other than the Home page. With my Home page I changed the header background colour to green by going to Advanced > Background, and selecting the colour I wanted. Apparently the changes I made to the header from my Home page do not carry across the entire site. What is the correct way to change the header so that this does happen? Or do I need to somehow edit the header on every page?
1. Go to your front end site , then hover the link Edit with Elementor from the admin bar. From there the elementor option will be displayed and you can edit your homepage
2. Please refer to the above instruction. If you want to create a completely new/blank page with elementor. You can do it via WordPress dashboard > Pages > add new , then edit with elementor. Set your homepage content, and publish. After that set WordPress dashboard > reading > front page display > Static , select the page you created , this way your new homepage page will be displayed as your homepage
3. Headers and Footers are static section. You can create an entirely different layout for this using Elementor Pro, then assign it to Premiumpress > Design setup > Page linking > header/footer
Thank you Marie, the answers to my first two questions are clear and I understand now.
For my 3rd question, I’m not sure I understand. I was able to edit my header while working on my home page. I didn’t like the home page Elementor created for me so I made my own, including adding a header widget. The header looks the same on my other pages, except I’m not able to change the background colour like I was on my home page, and I would like it to look the same on all pages. I don’t have Elementor Pro, just the free version. I don’t want to make a decision to purchase this until I’m more familiar with the free version of Elementor. Is there another way to change the background colour of my header on the other pages?
have you tried to create a custom css for your header?
No I have not tried to create a custom css for my header because I don’t know how to do this.
I’m afraid I’m getting more confused the more I try to design my site. I thought that by designing a header and footer, they would automatically appear on every page of my site. Is this not the case?
I think I understand that some pages have to be designed in Elementor and some pages in WordPress? if that’s the case, how can I make sure the pages all have the same look and feel so people know they are on the same website (same header, footer, colours, layout, etc)?
Also, is there a video or even a simple checklist that outlines the basic process to go through in order to design a premium press site? I find the videos very useful for individual tasks, but I’m having trouble seeing how all the parts fit together and I’m afraid I will miss something while I’m working through the process.
