Hiding main listing image from listing gallery

I am trying to follow the logic on how the images are handled.
I would like the ability to control the image that appears as the thumbnail for the listing vs the image that appears at the top of the listing.

When the listing has no image, then the shrink the web image appears, which is nice.
When the listing image is set or the featured image uploaded, then this image replaces the thumbnail, again perfect.

Now what seems to happen is the image loaded as the listing image or featured image gets added to the gallery, again probably useful.

However the system allows me to delete the image from the gallery and keep it as the listing image (featured image), again this is a great feature.

However, the reason I deleted it from the gallery was to keep it from showing in the gallery slideshow at the top of the listing.

What would be perfect would be for the gallery slide show at the top of the listing not include the featured image unless it was also part of the gallery images. Then we would simply delete it from the gallery list to “hide” it from the slide show.

The help description on the listing edit page implies that the slideshow is just the gallery images:

All image galleries created using the add media tool and added to the main description will be automaticaly transformed into an image gallery on the listing page.

I am on a similar quest as Mike here.
It would be great if the “thumbnail for the listing/shrink-the-web-image” can be separated from the “image that appears at the top of the listing”. This would allow for the search-results thumbnail to show either image-1 OR shrink-the-web-siteshot while the listing at the top of the listing can be image-2 (ie. a mini company banner”)

    hi

bascially the flow is like this

    1. checks for featured image (set using the WP thumbnails)
    2. no image it checks for a fallback image (plugins will come in here such as STW)

with STW if no fallback image is found, it will revert to the URL API and return the screenshot of the link.

at the moment iv not options to change this order.

Mark, any chance to just add this functionality so gallery is just the gallery pics and not gallery pics + featured image (unless featured image remains part of gallery)?
