Google Maps

I’m wanting to check if I am heading down the right path in order to achieve a goal in the future.
In the future I am wanting to create a Google Map of all the listings and have them plotted onto this map which would appear on the home page. Is there anything that I would need to specify NOW to my users for entering data into the google map field to achieve this map in the future? I do see posts for the responsive theme talking about having the click on the map to enable exact coordinates etc. or can users simply type their details into the field. thanks for any suggestions.
