Email widget shows incorrect email for signups

I placed the email widget on my site.
When I type in a test email, it tells me incorrect email.
There is no way to build the list, because the widget doesn’t work.

Any ideas? I am assuming this signup is a list, and not a User.
My site is closed to user registrations. It’s just an affiliate for now.

Are there any other settings for the email list?
