Child Themes Directory Script

Hi everything has been running smoothly with set up until this morning I installed Directory theme version 8.8 on a brand new installed wordpress blog, today I clicked on child themes and this is the message I am getting

An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.

nothing shows up not even the child themes that come with wordpress. I haven’t installed any third party plugins.
