Can I set up the payment options after creating a child theme?

Hello,
I have not got a paypal account and I would like to leave the set up of the payment side until later because I am enjoying learning how to adjust my design and the other options on my site 🙂
I am using the Directory theme and from what I have read the advice appears to be that it is best to create a child theme early on before you do too much adjusting of the design.
Can I create the child theme and set up the payment options later or do I need to set up the payment options first?
