Widgets not showing up in responsive mode/size

Hey guys, not sure if I am missing anything here but I am noticing that the widgets do not show up in responsive mode (ie; when viewing on an iphone).

Is this normal? I really need to have the advanced search widget show up on the home page in responsive mode.

Do I need to incorporate this into the main page content to have it show up or is there a way that we can have the widgets showing up in responsive mode. (I might have overlooked a setting)?
