WP-Content uploads

I would like to know why DirectoryPress doesn’t keep the original folder upload WordPress (wp-content/uploads).

Forcing the upload in wp-content/themes/directorypress/thumbs creates many problems :
– uploaded files are not classified per year / day, this can be a problem if I upload new files with names that already exist.
– I would change the upload folder and install it on a subdomain. But, with DirectoryPress, if I want to change the folder I have to change the path of all the files that already exist too. Over 3000 !

Please, do you have another solution ?
