Big Quantity of Listings – performance

Does anyone have experience with and/or able to refer to a site or sites using Directory Theme and a gazillion listings? I have a project that will have over 100,000 listings and just want to see how well the theme handles something like that. sample site doesn’t need that many but something with tens of thousands.

No, I don’t want to put this on a fire-breathing dedicated server, just a good spec VPS.

If you believe the sales hype from another directory plugin you’d be led to believe that PremiumPress can’t handle this type of site. I’d like to find out.
