I don’t agree with “Please try and keep things simple if it is at all possible. We can make it as fancy as we want with with plugins to do things like Sticky navigation, and even widgets and side bars for those that want it.”.
In my opinion, a premium theme should have all of these things, but there should be settings so you can choose how you want it.
I’m probably spoiled because I also have a licence for Divi and Toolset, so I’m used to be able to customize almost everything. Of course I understand that those companies have a whole team of developers, but I do hope we will be able to customize a whole lot more than just a few colors…
Some things I hoped to see are:
– Extensive custom page layouts, including header, sidebars and footer, not just for normal pages but also for things like the listing page (so we can choose where to put the image, price etcetera).
– Drag & drop e-mail template builders (or at least custom e-mail text) with more (customizable) triggers than before (like sending an e-mail to all members when there’s a new listing in a certain category)
– Drag & drop form builders (not just contact forms, but also things like the submit listing form) etcetera.
I think it’s a great idea to add that kind of functionality through plugins, but they should be native PP plugins, not third party plugins. Or maybe they should be third party plugins, but then you should make sure a number of (free) market leader plugins work flawlesly with the themes (eg the Elementor pagebuilder instead of your own, or WooCommerce for payments and shop functionality).
I would also love to see all the native themes functionality as plugins, so we can use any functionality throughout all themes. So eg I want to be able to use the dating themes personal message system in the Classifieds theme, or add shop functionality to any theme.
