HTTPS / SSL with DirectoryPress

Does anyone have any experience using SSL with DirectoryPress? I am considering using the standard GoDaddy certificate, but am concerned I might run into performance issues. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Hi Jesse,

I set my website (Responsive Directory Theme) to HTTPS and probably this is the reason that mailing list widget does not send any confirmation mails.
Although I edited the “#8221; file as recommended by Mark its still not working.
Hope I can get this solved anytime since I want to keep my site to be protected by SSL certicate.
Also the the “Carousel” doesnt work properly but I am not sure whether this also cocerns the SSL.

SSL is alot slower and not a good idea to use on the entire site, most people would only use it for login or checkout pages.

Is it possible for the My Account and Add Listing pages (including editing) to have the ability for SSL? I tried doing it, but then it says it cannot find the page 🙁

@Jesse – I am not using DirectoryPress but ShopperPress and I use the Plugin “WordPress HTTPS” with GoDaddy’s Standard SSL, works perfect. As Mark mentioned I ue the plugin to only make the Admin, login and in my case the shopping cart secured, no issues here.

But as I said this is on not the responsive framework but you might want to look at it.

Is this safe with all the hocus pocus going on now a day – Last Updated: 2013-3-15?

The HTTPS thing is working now. I think I was having issues with it because I had my provider redo the keys. Thanks.

Actually, now this is slightly interesting…

So, I turned Force SSL for the My Account page, but when I do that… when someone logins, it gives them a 404 error b/c it’s sending them to the */vhost/url/www/my-account/ instead of just the URL/my-account/

could be you need to reset your page links under the general setup -> pages tab.

Due to the recent news about Google announcing that sites that utilize HTTPS vs HTTP, I had decided to switch completely over to HTTPS, which yes, did slow down my site. Though, what I found is that with using the plug-in above, it slowed it down a LOT. I found that by adding this to the top of the .htaccess file, it sped things up a good amount:

    rewriteengine on
    RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} 80
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1 [R,L]

My sites initial connection time now is jumping from seconds to about seconds (whereas with the HTTPS plug-in was between 4 to 6 seconds).

Also, keep in mind, this is on just standard basic hosting with GoDaddy (though, it seems they have done things over the last 6 months to greatly increase WordPress response).

My whole support area is https, no slow down at all?

Not sure what the myth is here?

Https is https, why should it slow down a site?

Here is a nice one with https on certain pages, it’s WP.

Just need to work on things.
