Grid based theme?

I’d like to have my theme be grid based and not rely on the max of 3 columns.
This way I can have content span as many columns as I want.

Has anyone ideas on how to do this?

Grid based theme also has columns, that’s why it is called ‘grid’. Maybe you could explain more about the desired layout you want (attaching a drawing or sketch or some example link would help).

    Kind regards,

    Richard

Like a pinterest website. If firebox.com can stay in business with such a site then clearly its the future.

currently in the styling option of directory press, it offers 4 options
    1. full page width
    2. left column, main column
    3. main column, right column
    4. 3 column

What I need is to get rid of the columns completely.
For example I want the categories list to span 2 columns and under that have 2 single columns.
Think of bootstrap and its grid system where you can set all the content boxes to be any size of columns you want.

This is where the new Responsive Directory theme comes to action, as this is based on the Twitter Bootstrap.
