Footer

Due to the lack of tutorials out there. Does anyone know how to edit the shopperpress footer? I can get the three columns with widgets but it looks rubbish and one of the widgets has a white background when the footer is grey. Also there are two footers – the system one and one for widgets. How do I get rid of the default one?
