listing carousel

Is there any way to make the pictures in the listing carousel a uniform size? Pictures customers upload are always going to be different sizes. I adjusted the height in css but it just makes the pictures look squished or distorted and others look fine. first picture is without the added css. (I tried multiple height values) second picture is with added css to adjust the height. As you can see it doesn’t look good at all. I have noticed other front page elements that are having problems too. I tried using the carousel slider and pictures show up with a play button on them like they are a video and if you click it, it just brings you to a blank slide that has a link to allow you to download the picture. It also has a a gap between the slider and the preview thats almost the length of a full page. as shown in picture 3. The text from the slider also hangs out side of the border. I had to zoom out to 25% to show the gap.
