Requirements

What you need before installing a PremiumPress theme. There are only three things, and most hosting plans already cover all of them.

1

Hosting

Somewhere your files and database live, reachable 24 hours a day. Any host that meets the WordPress requirements below will run a PremiumPress theme.

Hosts we have tested →

2

A domain name

Your address on the web. Domains are often sold alongside hosting, though buying one separately keeps it independent of any single host.

3

WordPress + your theme

The content layer. WordPress is free, and your PremiumPress theme installs into it like any other theme.

Theme Install →

Use self-hosted WordPress from wordpress.org. The hosted wordpress.com service does not allow the custom themes and plugins these products depend on.

What the server needs

PremiumPress v12 is developed against the current release of WordPress, so the official WordPress requirements are the ones that matter. At the time of writing:

PHP

7.4 or greater. 8.1 or newer is recommended — it is significantly faster, and it is what the theme is developed on.

Database

MySQL 5.6 or greater, or MariaDB 10.1 or greater. Either is fine.

HTTPS

Supported by your host. Standard on essentially every host today, and usually included at no cost.

Optional extras

The theme needs nothing beyond the above to run. Two things simply light up if your host provides them.

FFmpeg PHP extension

Generates video thumbnails. Only relevant if your product accepts video uploads — without it everything else works as normal.

Writable wp-content/languages

Lets the theme install extra languages on demand. See Languages & Text.

Outbound internet access

Two features fetch from our CDN at the moment you use them, so the server needs outbound HTTPS: one-click theme updates (see Updates), and on-demand language installs.

Neither is required for the site itself to run. If your server is firewalled, both can be done by hand instead.
