Updates

Keeping your theme current.

Updates carry new features and bug fixes, but they also carry security patches — an out-of-date theme is the most common way a WordPress site gets compromised. Keep it current.

One-click updates

v12 feeds our releases into the update mechanism WordPress already has. When a new build is published, your site shows the normal update notice under Dashboard ▸ Updates and on Appearance ▸ Themes, and you press the normal button.

Nothing is overwritten that you own: your settings, listings, designs and uploads all live in the database and wp-content/uploads, not in the theme folder.

The theme carries a product version ("12.0" — the generation, shown on the Settings card) and a build number ("12.0.10" — bumped on every package). WordPress only ever reads and compares the build number, which is the one shown in the header of these docs.

Manual updates

If your server cannot reach our update endpoint — a firewall, or no outbound HTTPS — WordPress will not see the update. Install it by hand instead:

  1. Download the current ZIP from users.premiumpress.com/auth.
  2. Go to Appearance ▸ Themes ▸ Add New ▸ Upload Theme.
  3. Upload the ZIP and choose Replace current with uploaded when prompted.

Uploading over the existing theme is safe and is the supported route. You do not need to delete the old theme first — and you should not, because deleting a theme can take its options with it.

Before you update a live site

Take a backup, and if the site is business-critical, update a staging copy first. If you have made code changes directly to the theme folder, they will be lost — that is what Child Themes exist to prevent.
