Sign-up & Login
Sign-up & Login
How people join your site, what they are asked, and how they sign in.
Every setting here is a tile on PremiumPress ▸ Settings. Save after each change.
Open or close registration
Open the Users tile.
- Allow new registrations — switch off to stop new sign-ups. Existing members can still sign in.
- Members choose their password — when on, members pick a password at sign-up and are signed straight in. When off, they are emailed a link to set one.
- Default role — the role every new member is given.
Preview the sign-up flow shows sign-up as a visitor sees it.
Verify new members
Also on the Users tile:
- Require account verification — members must confirm their email before they can submit or manage listings.
- Also allow SMS verification — offers a texted code instead of email. Set up SMS first (see below).
- Business emails only — blocks free providers such as Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook at sign-up.
Choose what sign-up asks
Open the Sign-up & account fields tile. Under Sign-up questions, set each question to Required, Optional (can skip), which adds a Skip for now link, or Don't ask, which leaves it out.
The questions depend on your theme, for example where someone lives, their phone number or a photo. Fewer questions make a shorter sign-up. Email, password and accepting your terms are always asked.
Lock or hide account details
On the same tile, Account page fields controls what members can change on their own account page. Each row can be Editable, Read-only (shown but locked) or Hidden.
The rows include Your name, Display name, Phone number, WhatsApp number and Residential address, plus Account type and Language on some themes. Nothing stored is deleted, and you can still edit any member yourself. Email and password always stay editable.
Phone and WhatsApp numbers
On many themes, sign-up can ask for a phone number; set that question as above. Members add a WhatsApp number on their account page. Set the WhatsApp number row to Hidden if you don't want it.
To hide these numbers from signed-out visitors, switch on the members-only contact options in Design ▸ Listing Page Design. The buttons still show, but a signed-out visitor who clicks one is sent to sign in first. See Listing Page Layout.
Brand your login page
On the Users tile:
- Themed login page — uses your branded sign-in screen. Switch it off to use the normal WordPress login.
- Sign-in page image — click Select image to choose the picture on the right of the sign-in, sign-up and password-reset screens. Use a tall, sharp image, or leave it empty for a panel in your brand colours.
- Redirect after login — where members land after signing in. Leave it blank for the members area.
Add social logins
Open the Social login tile. It lists Google, Facebook, Apple, Microsoft and about 50 more.
- Create an app in the provider's developer console (for Google, the Google Cloud Console).
- For the redirect address, enter your site address followed by /?ppt_oauth=Google (or /?ppt_oauth=Facebook, and so on).
- Copy the Client ID and Client Secret it gives you.
- Tick the provider, paste both values into its boxes, and save.
A button only appears once the provider is ticked and both boxes are saved. To remove a button, untick the provider and save. Until a design is active, the login page shows example Google and Facebook buttons.
Stop spam sign-ups with reCAPTCHA
reCAPTCHA protects sign-in, sign-up, password reset, comments and reports from bots. Create a pair of keys for your domain on Google's reCAPTCHA site.
- Open the APIs tile and find reCAPTCHA.
- Choose reCAPTCHA v2 or reCAPTCHA v3, matching your keys. v2 shows an "I'm not a robot" tick box; v3 is invisible.
- Paste the Site key and Secret key.
- Click Test keys. For v2, tick the box when it appears.
- When the test passes, switch on Enable service and save.
reCAPTCHA can only be switched on once the keys pass the test, so a wrong key can't lock you out. If it won't switch on, a key is usually mistyped, the wrong version, or not set up for your domain.
If Google later rejects your Secret key, forms are let through and a warning appears in your admin. If you are ever locked out, your host or developer can switch reCAPTCHA off with a one-line change to your site's configuration file.
Text messages (SMS)
Open the SMS tile.
- Switch on Enable SMS.
- Choose your Provider: Twilio, Vonage, MessageBird or Plivo.
- Fill in Account SID / API key, Auth token / API secret, and From number / Sender ID. The Sender ID is the number or name messages come from; some countries only allow numbers.
- Save.
- Under Send a test, enter your mobile number with its country code (such as +44) and click Send test SMS.
If nothing arrives, check you saved first, and read the error shown.
Once SMS works, you can switch on Also allow SMS verification on the Users tile, and SMS alerts for events here. Alerts text members about things such as a new private message or a paid withdrawal, and on freelance themes new proposals and milestones. Only members with a phone number on file are texted.
