Members & Memberships

How to look after the people who use your site: their accounts, their plans and your newsletter list.

Manage your members

Open PremiumPress ▸ Users. Search by name, or narrow the list by role, membership plan, or who is Online now.

Add a member

  1. Click Add user.
  2. Enter a Username and Email. The username can't be changed later.
  3. Leave Password blank to have a strong one made for them.
  4. Pick a Role, and a membership Plan if they should have one.
  5. Tick Email the new member to send them a welcome email with a link to set their password.
  6. Click Create user.

Edit a member

Click Edit in a member's … menu. The page shows their profile, listings, orders and account details.

  • Profile — name, Display name, email, website and biography.
  • Membership — choose a Plan, or — No membership —. Expires on sets when it ends; leave it blank for no end date.
  • Role — what kind of account they have on the site. You can't change your own.
  • Set new password — type a new one (at least 6 characters). The member is not emailed, so tell them yourself.
  • Remove custom avatar — clears a profile photo you don't want shown.

Click Save changes when you are done.

When credits are switched on, a Credits box shows the member's balance. Enter a number in Adjust by to add credits, or a minus number to take them away. Write a Reason. The member sees it in their wallet history, so write it for them.

Message a member

Click the speech-bubble button on a member's row. Write your message, attach a file if you need to, and click Send message. It arrives in their messages on your site.

Change roles in bulk

Tick several members and choose Make followed by a role from the bulk menu. Each row's … menu has the same choices for one member at a time.

How account types work

On many themes, sign-up asks one question first, such as Are you buying, or selling? On a directory, a visitor chooses between being a customer and owning a business. A property site may offer seekers, owners and agents.

The answer shapes the member's dashboard. Someone who is only browsing gets a simpler dashboard, and someone who sells gets their selling tools up front. Members can switch type later from their account page, unless you lock that field (see Sign-up & Login).

On PremiumPress ▸ Users, each account type has its own tab, such as Buyers or Sellers, so you can see one group at a time. The filter menu also offers Account type.

To change a member's type yourself, open them and use Account type. Your choice overrides the answer they gave at sign-up. Pick — Not set by an admin — to hand them back their own answer. Listings they have already published stay where they are.

The words used depend on your theme and design, so your tabs may read differently.

Membership plans

Plans are created at PremiumPress ▸ Memberships. Each plan has a name, a price, a length in days (or Unlimited — never expires), and the features it includes. See Monetize for when to use memberships.

On themes with account types, Who sees membership plans lets you hide plans from one type entirely. Members of that type then see no plans page, no membership tab, and nothing on the site is locked behind a plan for them.

The panel beside the plans shows how many members are on each plan and which renewals are coming up. It counts plans members bought and plans you gave them from their user page.

Run a newsletter list

Open PremiumPress ▸ Subscribers. Switch on Enable subscriptions and save. Subscribe forms then show across your site, including the footer and any Subscribe block. Switch it off to hide every subscribe form.

People are added when they use one of those forms, or tick the newsletter box during sign-up. The Source column shows where each person came from.

Confirming new subscribers

Double opt-in is on by default. Each new subscriber is emailed a link, and stays Pending until they click it. To add people straight away without the email, open PremiumPress ▸ Email and switch off the Confirm subscription (double opt-in) email. See Emails.

Look after the list

Use the Subscribed, Pending and Unsubscribed tabs to see each group. A subscriber's … menu offers:

  • Resend confirmation or Mark confirmed, for pending people
  • Unsubscribe or Resubscribe
  • Delete, which removes them from the list for good

Tick several rows to unsubscribe, resubscribe or delete in one go. To send your newsletter, see Emails.
