Checkout: Tax, Shipping & Discounts

How to set up prices, discount codes, tax, shipping and the other checkout extras.

Most of this is under PremiumPress ▸ Checkout, one tab per topic; some tabs only appear on themes that use them. Gateways have their own guide, Payment Gateways. The screen has three Save changes buttons: one for Gateways, one for Shipping providers, and one for every other tab.

Currency and price format

Currency is set under PremiumPress ▸ Settings ▸ Currency.

  1. Pick your Currency. The Symbol fills in by itself.
  2. Choose the Symbol position, for example After amount (100$) to show 100€.
  3. Set Decimals to 0 to drop the ".00". Change the Thousands and Decimal marks if you use a comma for decimals.
  4. Check the Preview, then save.

Currency switcher adds a currency picker to your header. Prices are converted with approximate built-in exchange rates, not live ones, and customers are still charged in your own currency.

Discount codes

  1. On the Coupons tab, switch on Enable coupons.
  2. Click + Add coupon and type a Code, such as SUMMER10.
  3. Choose a Type. Percentage % takes a number like 10 for 10% off. Fixed amount takes off a sum of money, such as 5.00.
  4. Enter the Amount and save.

Expiry is the last day the code works. Limit is how many paid orders may use it; blank means unlimited. To delete a code, click its × and save.

A code fails at checkout when coupons are switched off, it has expired, or it has reached its limit. Customers can use one code per order.

If a coupon can't be saved, a red Saved, except for these coupons notice names it. The discount must be more than 0, and a percentage at most 100%. A code that was already saved keeps its old version.

Promotion bar

The Promotions tab adds a bar above your header on every page.

  1. Switch on Enable promotion bar.
  2. Write your Message, for example "Use code SAVE10 for 10% off".
  3. Add a Link (optional) to make the bar clickable.
  4. Tick Let visitors dismiss the bar so people can close it.

A code named in the bar is not applied automatically; customers still type it.

Tax and VAT

  1. On the Tax tab, switch on Enable tax.
  2. Enter the Tax rate (%) and its label, such as VAT or GST.
  3. If your prices already include tax, tick Prices already include tax. Otherwise tax is added on top.

Under Tax rates by country, click + Add country to give a country its own rate and label. Every other country pays the default rate. To charge 20% in the UK and nothing elsewhere, set the default to 0 and add the UK at 20.

A country rate needs the customer's country. That is known on shop orders once they enter a shipping country. Everywhere else, the default rate applies.

Shipping

  1. On the Shipping tab, switch on Enable shipping.
  2. Switch on Ship all items to charge postage on every product, not just those marked as needing shipping.
  3. Enter a Flat rate (fallback).
  4. Enter Free shipping over to post free above that total. Leave 0 to turn it off.

If postage isn't being added, check these settings first.

To sell to some countries only, switch on Restrict to selected countries. Add each country with + Add country and switch it on. Customers elsewhere can't check out. A Rate override charges that country its own price; blank uses the flat rate.

To charge by weight, set your Ship-from country and Ship-from postcode, switch on Enable weight-based rates, and enter one band per line: max kg, price, label. For example "2, 4.99, Small parcel". The cheapest band the order fits is used. An order heavier than every band uses the heaviest one.

On shop and marketplace themes, Shipping & Delivery text is the delivery information shown on every product page.

Live carrier rates

For live UPS or Royal Mail prices, install that carrier's shipping-provider plugin. It appears under Shipping providers at the bottom of the Shipping tab. Enter its keys, click Test connection, then that section's own Save changes. A failed test usually means a wrong key or a missing ship-from postcode.

At checkout a live quote is tried first, then a country's rate override, then weight bands, then the flat rate.

Credits

Where your theme sells credits, the Credits tab sets their value, the packs for sale and an optional Public credits page. See Monetize.

Conversion tracking

On the Tracking tab, paste your Google Ads, Analytics or Meta Pixel purchase snippet into Tracking code. It runs once, on the order confirmation page. Put {order_id}, {order_total} and {currency} where the snippet needs order details.

If the script disappears when you save, your account isn't allowed to save scripts. Save it again from a full administrator account.

Payment badges

  1. On the Badges tab, switch on Show payment badges.
  2. Tick the logos you want. All and None work per group; Select all and Clear all work on the whole list.
  3. Edit the Heading ("Payment options" by default), or empty it to show logos alone.

Badges are display only. Ticking Apple Pay does not let customers pay with it.

Badges stay hidden until a real gateway is switched on under Gateways; the test gateway doesn't count. Some designs never show badges. To hide them, switch off Show payment badges.
