Search Page

You choose which filters visitors can use, how results look, and who can search.

Open Design ▸ Search Page Design. When you have finished, click Save changes.

Choosing and ordering filters

Search filters lists every filter your site can offer, such as Keyword box, Category, Price range, Nearby, Minimum rating and Sort dropdown. The list depends on your theme. New categories or tag groups you create appear here automatically.

  • Use the switch at the end of a row to turn a filter on or off. For example, switch on Price range to add a price filter, or switch off the tag filter to remove it.
  • Drag a row to change the order. Drag Location or Nearby to the top to show it first.

Nearby is a distance search from a postcode or place. It only appears when maps are turned on for your site.

If you sell membership plans, a Members only switch also appears. A members-only filter shows as locked to visitors whose plan does not include it.

Filter icons

Each filter has a small icon beside its name. To change it, click the icon and pick a new one from the Choose an icon grid. To remove it, pick the first square, No icon.

When a filter does not show

A filter only appears on the search page when it has something to offer. If it does not, its row shows a warning explaining why.

  • "No countries exist yet" means there are no entries to choose from. Add some, and the filter appears.
  • "No listing has a country yet" means entries exist, but no listing uses them. Assign one to a listing, and the filter appears.

The same applies to a new category group or any other list of terms. Turning the filter on is not enough until listings use it.

Results

  • Results per page sets how many listings each page shows, from 1 to 100. Type 24 to show 24.
  • Results per row sets how many cards sit side by side. Automatic shows four with filters on top and three with a filter sidebar, or you can choose 2 to 5.
  • Default view shows results as Grid cards or a detailed List.
  • View toggle shows visitors a grid/list switch above the results. Turn it off to hide the switch.
  • Default order sets the starting sort, such as Newest, Featured first or Price: low to high.

Some themes always show results as rows, so some of these settings may not appear.

Search page layout

Under Layout & filter rail, the Layout tiles set where the filters sit:

  • Match the design: follows your installed design
  • Filters on top
  • Filters on the left
  • Filters on the right
  • Three columns
  • Map view: a full-window map with the results, offered only when maps are turned on

Click the magnifying glass on a tile to preview the search page in that layout before saving.

If your layout did not change after you installed a design, you probably picked a layout yourself earlier. Your choice overrides the design. Choose Match the design to follow it again.

Filter panel style and sticky filters

Filter rail style sets how filters are grouped when they sit beside the results:

  • One panel: a single card of controls
  • Separate cards: one card per filter, each with a heading that folds away
  • Sections in one panel: the same folding headings inside one card

The last two give an accordion effect. Use the Preview links to see each style. The style only applies with Filters on the left or Filters on the right.

Sticky filters makes the filter panel follow visitors as they scroll. Turn it off to keep it at the top of the page. The two folding styles start with it off, and on some themes every style does.

Email signup box

The Email signup box is a card under the filters that asks visitors for their email address. It starts switched off.

  1. Switch on Email signup box.
  2. Change the Heading, Text, Button and Placeholder wording if you like. Leave a box empty to keep the wording shown.
  3. Click Save changes.

Signups appear in PremiumPress ▸ Subscribers once the visitor confirms by email. A signup is not linked to what the visitor was searching for, so do not promise matching alerts.

The box only shows with Filters on the left, Filters on the right or Three columns. Its row shows a warning if your layout cannot show it. If the row is missing altogether, turn subscriptions on in PremiumPress ▸ Subscribers first.

Page access

  • Users must be logged in to search: signed-out visitors see a Please sign in to search message and a Sign in button instead of results. This locks the search page only. Listing pages are not locked by this setting.
  • Open listings in a new window: clicking a result opens the listing in a new browser tab.
