Cashback Browser Extension
Cashback Browser Extension
Cashback Theme only. Give your members a Chrome and Edge extension under your own name, icon and colours.
When a member is on a store you list, the extension's toolbar icon shows the cashback rate (for example "8%"). One click on Activate cashback sends them through your normal Shop now link, so tracking, claims and payouts work exactly as they do on your website. The popup also shows the member's balance and their latest claims.
You publish the extension yourself, on your own Chrome Web Store and Microsoft Edge Add-ons accounts. The theme builds the file for you; it takes about half an hour, plus a few days' wait for approval.
Before you start
- Your site should use HTTPS (the address starts with
https://). Most hosts switch this on for free. Without it, members may appear signed out in the extension. - Have a privacy policy page. Set one under Settings ▸ Privacy. Google and Microsoft both ask for its address.
- Have a square logo image of at least 128 × 128 pixels for the icon. If your site already has a Site Icon (Appearance ▸ Customize ▸ Site Identity), the extension uses it automatically.
Step 1: Give each store its website address
The extension recognises a store by its website address, such as nike.com.
- Open Stores and edit a store.
- Fill in Store website, just under the Store link, for example
nike.com. - Save.
You only need this when the store link is an affiliate network link. Stores brought in with the Awin import already have it, and a store link that goes straight to the store's own site counts on its own. The Browser extension screen shows how many stores still need an address.
Amazon stores are always left out: Amazon's affiliate agreement does not allow cashback.
Step 2: Make your extension
- Go to Checkout ▸ Cashback claims and open the Browser extension tab.
- Under How it looks, set:
- Name — what members see, for example "Harbor Cashback". Leave it blank to use your site name.
- Short description — one sentence, up to 132 characters. A default is filled in.
- Colour — follows your design's brand colour until you change it.
- Icon — choose an image, or leave it to use your Site Icon.
- Click Save. The preview on the right shows the popup.
- Click Download extension (.zip). Don't unzip the file — you upload it exactly as it is. The same file works for Chrome and Edge.
Step 3: Publish on the Chrome Web Store
- Open the Chrome Web Store developer dashboard (linked on the Browser extension screen) and sign in with a Google account.
- Pay the one-time $5 registration fee.
- Click New item and upload the .zip.
- Fill in the store listing: category Shopping, your description, the icon and at least one 1280 × 800 screenshot. Include the affiliate disclosure text from the Browser extension screen in your description.
- On the privacy section, use the Copy buttons on the Browser extension screen to paste the single purpose and the reason for each permission, and add your privacy policy address.
- Submit for review. Approval usually takes a few days.
Step 4: Publish on Microsoft Edge Add-ons
- Sign in to Microsoft Partner Center (linked on the Browser extension screen) with a Microsoft account. Publishing on Edge is free.
- Create a new extension and upload the same .zip.
- Fill in the listing and privacy sections with the same texts, then submit. Approval usually takes up to a week.
Step 5: Tell your members
- When each store approves the extension, copy the address of its store page.
- On the Browser extension screen, paste them under Store links and click Save.
Members now see a Never miss cashback card in their Cashback area with Add to Chrome and Add to Edge buttons. You can share the same links in emails or on your homepage. Leave both links blank and the card stays hidden.
After it is live
- New stores and rate changes appear by themselves. The extension refreshes its store list twice a day — nothing to re-upload.
- Changed the name, icon or colour, or updated the theme? Download a new .zip and upload it to both stores as an update. Each download gets a new version number, which the stores require.
- Everything else is unchanged. Clicks, claims, confirmations and payouts work as they do on your website.

Common questions
Does it work in Firefox or Safari? No — Chrome and Microsoft Edge only.
Does it activate cashback automatically? No. Nothing happens until the member clicks, which is what the Chrome Web Store's affiliate rules require.
Does it track purchases? No. It only sends the member through your Shop now link. Sales are tracked, claimed and paid exactly as on your website.
What does it know about my members' browsing? It downloads your store list and checks the page address against it on the member's own computer. Pages visited are never sent anywhere. The only signed-in request is the member's own balance, and your site answers it for the extension only.
The popup shows members as signed out. Check that your site uses HTTPS, then ask the member to sign in on your website in the same browser.
A store never lights up. Give it a Store website (Step 1), and check that the store is published and is not an Amazon store.
