Translation Tool isn't working properly

We have the problem, that the translation tool (english to german) doesn’t translate everything. (language_german.php)
For example. File 21 engl: “public” doesn’t translate to germ. “öffentlich”.
Does anybody have an idea how to solve this problem?

    Thanks in advance

For some of the characters you need to use html entities. Replace Ö for example with it’s equivalent. :) Tried to post it here but it does not display correctly.

    Try this page

Also don’t change the word english at the top of the file or it won’t work, if I remember rightly.

I needed to do this a lot with a French translation I did. I think it can be sorted with WP config file on install as well but have never got round to trying that as it was a one off project.

I also got this problem now, i uploaded a new lenguage file, all works well, but the special character like Ö and so on don’t appear right.(ISO 8859-1 Characters) and i need them for swedish language.

I saw the html entities link, but how can i fix this problem ?

by php, or in the lenguage file changing the special character with
    the Entity Number:e.g:Å

    Entity Name:e.g: Å

    Thank you.

    Thanks for your answers

We can rule out problems with Ö or Ä etc.
It doesn’t matter whether you enter a simple “a” or “b”, the tool doesn’t accept it.
So we had the idea to change the words in the file.A very bad idea!
Resume for example exists several times,so which one you should take?A funny game,if your wrong the server collapsing.
If you found the correct location, in our situation the “Positiontype” in the Advanced Search, you change the words and “heureka” it seems to work, but unfortunately now the Advanced Search doesn’t work anymore.
Just try to repair the advanced search, no chance even if the program is reinstalled.
    Bad times

When I did a French translation I found that apostrophes ‘ could cause problem’s at places as well in the language file.

    Hi David
French is a tricky language without a doubt. Our problem is quite simpel. The tool doesn’t accept the input word,no matter what it is.So it’s a bug.
We could go immediately online,if the problem with the translation-tool and the problem with the Advanced Search are solved. The Feedback problem should be solved
