So I am looking to see if PP Themes can render so-called pretty links like:

    http://mywebsite.com/author/teeslar/

So that the above profile can look like this:

    http://mywebsite.com/teeslar/

In knowing this is a great way to build social identity…..

Do I need a redirect plugin or similar – to achieve this?

Apart from hiding the word ‘author’ in the url, I don’t see any other benefit.

Note that it is not a limitation of the PremiumPress themes, but rather a WordPress issue.

If you understand how WordPress works, you would know that the permalinks look as they are for a reason.
Lets say that you have an author ‘teeslar’, then you have a post ‘teeslar’, category ‘teeslar’, attachment ‘teeslar’ and you have a listing ‘teeslar’ – WordPress then uses the permalink to differentiate between the different ‘kinds of teeslar’.
so for category it uses /category/teeslar
    for tags it uses /tag/teeslar
    for post it uses /teeslar
    etc.

There are some plugins or other ways to change the permalinks, but those are ‘hacks’ and negatively affect the WordPress functionality.

    @Mark

The benefit issue is more about following the social media standard like say these examples:

    https://twitter.com/teeslar
    https://facebook.com/teeslar

Cheers for your comprehensive analysis – much appreciated!

I should have asked – how to change the “author” folder to another name – like say: “account” without negatively impacting on the WordPress functionality.

I have found several plugins which do the hack so am looking at other solutions first.

Mike have a look at this plugin:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/edit-author-slug/

This should do the job for you.

@Mark – thanks so much – I will look at this and a hack that M has kindly constructed which also looks extremely useful.

Will also report back for usability.
