Mark (hoping) et al,
Having played a bit with the new version development (V7) I would like to help so much, but despite even a PM to Mark I can't seem to make any impression that there is opportunity for FREE enhancements to your range of themes.
CURRENTLY the PP theme frame uses an outdated process (API V2) to determine the map location, which at best is iffy. The process also requires an API from Google, which the forum has some posts on.
Yes, I am making a plugin that will add enhanced features, but it will require users to go and add the hook manually, either copy paste or shortcode.
Some months ago we developed a new process of adding the gecoded data to the database of a DP install using API v3. I published a quick video online to share with someone (radio in the background sorry). I am not a video publisher, but I am sure you will gather from the video clip, that once you enter address fields, you get an interactive map within the submission form. Users drag the pin to dermine exact location. Done.

You can have this Mark, free of charge.
Secondly, the single post map output is another API V2 version, whilst functional still limits the creative use of maps. Using the API V3 you can add MULTIPLE instances of goole maps in the admin panel, deploying these as you wish. Single post, category view, sidebar etc.
The MAIN issue is that the DB will contain lat long coordinates that can creatively be used all over PP themes. For instance, if you have a travel directory, you can EASILY add a geo tagged image overlay, maing it possible to display images of the area where your listing is.
KML files contain so much data, and these can freely be used.
As a bonus, and utilizing your main widget area, a single map, focused on any area in the globe, can dynamically display all your listings by category.
This is also still free.
As this functionality might not be what all users will do, this can be, and will be deployed as a plugin. In fact, if you only want to use geocoding for correct single post maps, you dont have to use all functions. If you want to display a streetview map, across the full width of the page, you can do that as well. The users will be able to choose their level of map use, or none at all.
WHAT IS THE POINT I AM TRYING TO MAKE ?
For the PP community installing and deploying this plugin will be quick, and provide all the functionailty I have mentioned here, as well as on other posts. Some users might struggle with the implementation, and updates to the PP framework, as the plugin might have to be re hooked and re hooked every time you make a new update.
BUT, you can make this easy and futureproof mapping on PP, adding all these enhanced features for your user base with a .............
HOOK TO THE SUBMIT PAGE
Automated installs, automated submission form changes to incorporate API v3 geocoding and a choice of maps. And best of all, update proof.
Will you hook me up Mark? Please?
I look forward to complying with your stringent demands to ensure FULL compatibility.
I have published various links with mashups and test sites, but would be more than HAPPY to address any concerns or issues you might have with a test site url.
This is an example site, made with DirectoryPress V5 which should at least make you think I could actually be telling the truth, and have something valuable to enhance your range of themes.
The landing page is actually the submit page. Add text, add images and save. Save is submit button. It publishes automatically.

Just a hook Mark, just a hook ....
