When a user submits a listing but cannot find a listing to compare to, the listing gets duplicated (shown as compared to itself but without price on one).
This happens as soon as the user types into the compared to field, and even if they don’t make a selection. if the user makes a selection then the products are displayed as compared, which is what we want.
The only way to avoid this (duplicate of non compared listing) is if the user doesn’t search for a compared listing at all.
