Need Help with Changing Google Maps Core

Hi I am fairly new to wordpress and web development but want to know if its possible to replace my google maps integrated feature with my custom google map plugin. After downloading and installing the directory press theme i found the google maps to be a bit limited in functionality so i found a plugin called wp google maps that has some very nice custom features but it only gives me a shortcode which allows me to embed on my pages but not as a fully integrated feature for all post come through the listings instead i have to manually ad each post…. also when ever a seach is done from the site or a post location is queried it goes back to the original google map.
So i would like to know if i can replace the integrated google maps core with my custom google maps core
