Same as many others have had. Videos I link from youtube are not generating thumbnails.
Thing is the demo listings included with the theme that link to youtube have thumbnails.
Attached image shows one of the default example video listings, an Eminem video from youtube, has a thumbnail, as do all the example video listings, but the video I have added on the right is blank.
Now I have seen mention of ffmpeg and asking hosts to enable this, but if this is the case where are the example videos getting their thumbnails from?
Inspecting the Eminem videos thumbnail I get:
And for my video I get:
(Same for if the site is online, just replace localhost/wordpress, with domain name.)
When, I imagine it should be pulling this image link “https://i.ytimg.com/vi/f4OD6hmiL2w/hqdefault.jpg”
(Correct thumbnail for the video in question, and same domain as examples.)
Quite confusing as I imagine if the issue was something like ffmpeg plugins that seems to be mentioned on every post with similar issues, none of the example videos would have thumbnails themselves yes?
So how to get the thumbnails showing correctly? As always, any help would be massively appreciated.
(Just a note, this is a clean install with no addons, and I cannot provide links as this is a local install, just did some temp online installs to see if that would make it work.)
And as soon as I posted this I found (always the way lol), from looking at the example video again, and a bit more closely, it’s a custom field ‘image’ that needed to be manually added to the listing options along with the thumbnail link.
Be great if Mark and Co. could find a way to automate it when a video is linked.
